Today I woke up and I had an e-mail from my airline saying my flight bound to Argentina on the 9th was canceled. Again.
So, I decided to get down to business and start this HayaRyu fic rec I said I was going to do so I could escape reality for a little bit and the fact that I don't know when the fuck I'm coming back to my country.

So, sorry for the sob story. Let's get on with the fic recs.

Hangdogs by hilaryscribbles (purged account) @ je_holiday → This fic is so heartwrenching and it takes you from chibi!HayaRyu to their adulthood. The Hayato here is so rough and Ryu is so... Ryu. I don't know. This is definitely a must read in this fandom. Definitely.

Five Things That Never Happened to Hayato and Ryu and Maps (No Matter the Road) the sequel to the last scenario by acchikocchi → THAT LAST STORY, THO. Seriously, I love all of them, but I'm all up for what-if HayaRyu stories.

Untitled Hayato/Ryu and Untitled Hayato/Ryu no. 2 by cease11 @ ceruleanloft → These two fics are like two very wild what-ifs in the HayaRyu realm, but they somehow work pretty well. My favorite is the one where Hayato is a pastry chef, but the other one is pretty entertaining too.

Door by arugentine → Oh, this fic is so well written. And the way that doors actually become a very important part in the relationship. I love everything about this. This is truly a gorgeously written fic.

All the things I said and all the things I didn't also by arugentine → It's incredible how one sentence stories can convey so much. I highly recommend this piece by Arugentine. It's truly heartwarming.

Low twenties by takethatsuckah (empty account) → There was this trend of what-if fics back then of Hayato going to Canada. This is definitely one of my favorites. I love how Ryu is so harsh with Hayato here, as even if there's love there, Ryu's also a rational guy, and he's not gonna condone everything Hayato does just because he loves the guy.

Rebound by Threewalls → Do I enjoy teenage gay angst too much for my own good? Yes, I do. I really love this fic. Short but to the point. Ryu and/or Hayato angsting over their sexuality is always a soft spot for me because same, man.

Apply Ice to Reduce Swelling also by Threewalls → I feel like I'm always talking about my kinks, but bruises/scars are definitely one of them. Maybe that's why I like Gokusen and HayaRyu so much. In any case, this fic has bruises and first times, definitely worth reading.

A Friendship Worth Fighting for by notaverse → I'm not usually a fan of summary like fics with no dialogue, but this one really hits the nail on the head.

Rough Boys by razberrycream @ je_holiday → OKAY, SO WHERE DO I START. Softest HayaRyu ever. I've to admit I love rough HayaRyu but I also love me some soft HayaRyu from time to time to soothe the wounds rough HayaRyu leave. This is really, really fluffy but not tooth-achingly sweet. Read it if you're having a bad day, you won't regret it.

Safekeeping also by razberrycream @ je_holiday → Razberrycream obviously had a thing for soft HayaRyu just like me and knew how to deliver it to perfection.

Light of Dark by mustenentwined3 @ a_soft_embrace → Angsty Ryu and angry Hayato really are an explosive combination. This one's full of angst, but it doesn't have an angsty ending.

In The Afterglow of The Massacre by argle_fraster (purged account) → Post-fight HayaRyu patching themselves up. Ryu not giving a fuck. Lots of tension. 10/10.

Let Them Eat Cookies by lamoamadeen → A light-hearted plot with easy-going HayaRyu but with a bit of gay angst and denial. Great combination overall.

Life Goals by peroxide_fic → One of those G rated HayaRyu fics that manage to warm your heart with day-to-day non-sense.

A Sentimental Mind by prologuesized → Just HayaRyu being HayaRyu. Lots of angst but also fluffiness 💖

Rondo by frameofmind6 → This is so gjsofbskfueonfbsofbd. I love HayaRyu fics with teacher!Ryu and parts from Gokusen: The Movie. The relationship between Hayato and Ryu here is so fucking exasperating and all the things they don't talk about but should be talking about AAAARGH. Beautiful fic.

In less than twenty words by misao_duo @ calreskuee → Hayato and the gastronomic industry seem to be the perfect fit. I love the easy-going relationship between Ryu and Hayato here. There doesn't always have to be angst in HayaRyu.

and life goes on (let me warm your numb hands) by randomicicle @ inkroulette → This fucking fic. Papa!Hayato is so unexpectedly good. He's soft where it counts but still familiarly rough. Ryu + babies is one of those things I didn't know I needed in my life until I read this. This is definitely one of my favorite HayaRyu fics. You SHOULD read it.

Through Brambles and Thorns by maayacola → Maayacola was one of my favorite authors, as I told you in my previous post. This fic is. So. Fucking. Angsty. But. So. Fucking. Good in the end. It's gorgeous, really. Maaya again put these little pieces and fragments from different versions of Sleeping Beauty and they made this fic almost magical. I just- I can't describe in words just how beautiful this is and how much I love it.

a matter of definition by Harajukucrepes → Hayato being a total dolt and Ryu being a quiet bastard, as always.

Growing Old by razberrycreme → Future and mature HayaRyu, mentions of Yankumi and Ryu being teachers, Ryu showing his feelings, day-to-day routine, FLUFF, what's there not to like in this fic?

Bubblegum Fish by ashi_ga_demasu → So apart from having a very gay Hayato with an unrequited love for an apparently straight Ryu, this fic also has perfect lines and dynamics and the perfect balance between angst, fluff and smart-assery.
